DID YOU KNOW...
Red Dot King Henry VIII's wife, Anne Boleyn, often wore gloves to hide a deformed hand.
Red Dot The invention of the sewing machine in 1845 completely revolutionized glove-making.
Red Dot Samuel Goldwyn was a top glove salesman before he became a film producer.
Red Dot The word "glove" comes from an Anglo-Saxon term that means "palm of the hand."

And...
Red Dot Glove making, an ancient art, became an industry in 1834 when Xavier Jouvin of Grenoble, France, invented the punch press. The cutting die simultaneously cut out six gloves of precise fit, thus making inexpensive mass production possible.
Red Dot For centuries, embroidered and jeweled gloves were a symbol of wealth and power, worn by the nobility, clergy and merchant classes. They became a source of contention in 17th century England when the Puritans took exception to this conspicuous display of wealth. Under Oliver and Richard Cromwell, any such sartorial display was virtually prohibited by law.
Red Dot Gloves made from the skins of young goats or "kids," are still regarded as the epitome of hand fashion and are famous for being soft and comfortable to wear. Thus the expression, "treated with kid gloves!"

Mendocino Glove Company News - Vol. 3 No. 1 Spring 2000

Ed. Note--The following article is the first in a series of profiles designed to acquaint our customers with the various companies who supply us with our products. We are proud to do business with all of them!

LAUGHLIN-CARTRELL, A CLASS ACT

It has always been our policy to offer the best quality at the best price with the best service! Part of carrying out that commitment to our customers is making sure that the suppliers we choose operate on the same philosophy that we do. Laughlin-Cartrell, Glove Division of Carlton, OR, not only provides a superior product at a competitive price, but the company's pivotal pair of Donn Williams and Connie Barrett offer the experience and versatility necessary to respond to our, and therefore our customers' needs.

Laughlin-Cartrell, Glove Division, began production as a manufacturer of industrial quality grain and split cowhide gloves, aprons, mitts, arm guards, and hand pads following the closure of the Portland Glove Company facility in Carlton in 1994. Donn and an associate purchased the manufacturing equipment and reorganized in a new facility. Portland Glove had served industrial consumers with quality leather products for more than 50 years, a tradition that Laughlin-Cartrell is committed to upholding and expanding.

Laughlin states their mission is "to reduce customer costs and increase customer safety by providing a premium quality product with a useful life far greater than the competition."

Our customers love this kind of thinking!

Ever wonder about their Chirripo label? With its background of high mountains? Seems that Chirripó Grande is the highest peak (12,530 ft) in the several mountain ranges that run nearly the entire length of the country of Costa Rica. Stands to reason they would pick that sort of name for such a high quality product!

If you aren't currently using these gloves and would like the chance to look at the various styles as well as some of the other Laughlin products, please let us know and we'll send along a catalog or deliver some samples for you to try!

LATEX--NOT JUST FOR DISHES!

Latex, or natural rubber, is the most elastic substance known. It has excellent abrasion, cut and tear resistance as well as outstanding grip and temperature resistance from 0-300°F. However, natural rubber has poor flame resistance. Natural rubber is a hydrocarbon and degrades in contact with hydrocarbon fluids like kerosene and gasoline. It is not recommended where resistance to oil, grease or petroleum solvents is required.

Latex will withstand all liquids that will mix with water, making unsupported types especially suited for general household use. Heavier versions will resist acids, salts, and caustics such as common furniture strippers without sacrificing grip or tactile sensitivity. Coated versions have crinkle finishes, making them the best choice for handling sharp-edged materials such as glass and sheet metal, as well as hard-to-handle objects like large piping, lumber, natural and concrete stones.

Best Manufacturing's Nitty Gritty and Wells Lamont's Rose Glove are excellent for pruning roses. We also sell DuBarry household gloves, which are made in Europe and considered some of the best in the business.
